Top 10 Tallest Buildings in the World
Updated: Oct 6, 2021
Tall buildings - symbols of urban style and majesty - have always fascinated mankind. The world's first skyscraper built with a steel frame was the Chicago Home Insurance Building, built in 1885 with a height of 55 m (180 ft) and 10 stories. But it was in New York that the skyscraper concept became an aspiration in the early 20th century, with the 443 m (1,454 ft) Empire State Building being literally the tallest building in the world, a landmark brand that it held for nearly half a century (from 1931 to 1972). Constantly improving technology, technical ability and a lot of ego make us keep building higher and higher, pushing our own boundaries (today, the Empire State Building doesn't even make the top 45 again). Here are the 10 tallest buildings in the world today.
